I'm not sure how much we're going to be getting into 3D rendering with certain projects, but there's a free program called Blender 3D which is a free 3D rendering software. It's relatively easy to use and doesn't take that long to get used to. It just recently updated to version 2.75 and I made the following image in version 2.71. Also, If you have a windows 10 device, the app store there offers a program called 123D+ Sculpt, which allows 3D form creation. works best with a touch screen + mouse combo.
